At UBX, we are dedicated to providing our members with the utmost support and guidance in their fitness journeys. We believe that every step our members take towards their health and wellness goals should be purposeful and transformative. We want to highlight a valuable element that often goes unnoticed but holds immense value: Fitness Testing.
What is fitness testing?
In simple terms, fitness testing is a process of evaluating and measuring different aspects of a person's physical fitness. It involves performing specific exercises to assess factors such as strength, endurance, flexibility, and body composition. The purpose of fitness testing is to gather objective information about an individual's current fitness level, set goals and track progress over time. It helps individuals understand their strengths, areas for improvement, and overall health, empowering them to make informed decisions and achieve their fitness goals effectively.
Why is it important
We want to emphasize the significance of fitness testing and why it is crucial for our members' journeys with us:
-
Establishing a Starting Point: Fitness testing allows us to set a baseline of our members' current fitness levels, serving as a reference point to track their progress and celebrate achievements.
-
Measuring and Celebrating Progress: Regular fitness tests provide an objective and measurable way to track our members' progress, boosting motivation and providing a sense of accomplishment.
-
Expert Guidance and Support: Our coaches provide personalized guidance, helping members reach their fitness goals effectively and push beyond their perceived limits.
-
Health Awareness: Fitness testing goes beyond assessing physical fitness; it provides valuable insights into overall health, empowering members to make informed decisions and maintain a healthier lifestyle.
Real-world Example
At UBX, we constantly lean into the professional sports world. It has always been our mission to offer the level of training professional athletes receive. Which is typically inaccessible to the everyday fitness consumer. Learn more about the professional coaches at UBX who support us in this endeavour.
Fitness testing plays a critical role in professional sports, and one notable example is the NFL Combine an annual event where players showcase their physical abilities to scouts and coaches. The NFL Combine incorporates a comprehensive battery of repeat tests to assess various aspects of an athlete's fitness. These tests provide a standardized evaluation platform, enabling teams to make informed decisions. By utilizing fitness testing, the NFL can objectively compare athletes' performances, identify their strengths and weaknesses, and determine their potential fit within a team's system. It allows teams to gauge an athlete's readiness for the demands of professional football and helps uncover hidden talents or areas for improvement.
While the NFL Combine showcases fitness testing on a grand scale for professional athletes, its principles and benefits can be applied to the everyday fitness consumer as well.
How we do it at UBX
At UBX, we understand that the concept of fitness testing can sometimes evoke apprehension in the member. However, we always assure our members that fitness testing is a process designed to support and empower them on their unique fitness journeys. Our aim is to create a welcoming and supportive environment where every member feels valued and inspired. By embracing fitness testing, we can celebrate achievements, and support members to confidently push beyond their perceived limits.
We encourage all our members to embrace this opportunity as a positive and inclusive step toward unlocking their full potential.
Inbody
An InBody body composition scan, is a non-invasive test that provides detailed insights into your body composition, including fat, muscle, water, and bone mass. We encourage members to complete regular scans (Normally before and after each of our 3 annual 6-week challenges). Completing scans regularly gives constant feedback on progress on the key body composition metrics. These scans also act as a secondary revenue stream for our Franchisees.
Benchmarks
Drawing on inspiration from the NFL combine, during the first and last week of each of our 6-week challenges, we build 3 different fitness tests into the workout. These cover Power Endurance, Anaerobic capacity and Muscular Endurance. Building them into the workout, ensures 100% of our members complete the tests at least 6 times per year. They can record these in our app, and monitor their progress over the year. Members can then see how they compare to all other UBX members, as well as the leaders in their club.
Attendance
Progress in fitness essentially comes down to one key metric, attendance. Due to the way, we create our programs, we are very confident that if a member turns up and trains with intent, 2-3+ days per week, they will get results. We, therefore, track and monitor our members' attendance at key times in their journey, starting in their first 28 days. Members are publicly recognised and rewarded for meeting certain milestones during these focused monitoring periods.
Myzone
MyZone is a fitness tracking system designed to help individuals monitor and optimize their workouts. It consists of a wearable heart rate monitor that tracks your heart rate, calories burned, and effort exerted during exercise. The MyZone system uses personalized heart rate zones to gauge your intensity and effort level, providing real-time feedback on a screen or mobile app. This allows you to see how hard you're working and helps you stay motivated and accountable during your workouts. The MyZone system also includes features like challenges, gamification, and social connections to make fitness more engaging and interactive. Overall, MyZone is a tool that enhances your fitness experience by providing accurate heart rate monitoring and encouraging you to push your limits for better results.
In workout challenges
In addition to the formal tests above, we also include many workout challenges. Although these are not tracked formally, they provide a gauge for that specific exercise on where the member compares to others in the gym. This creates higher engagement and interactions during our workout experience.
